The Division of Insurance issues a single producer license with multiple lines of authority to any individual or business entity wishing to solicit, sell, or negotiate insurance products. The producer lines are Property, Casualty, Life, Health, Variable, Title, Surplus Lines, and Personal Lines.

Individuals who do not qualify for a waiver of pre-licensing education must complete a pre-licensing education course offered by an approved education provider in order to be licensed to solicit, sell, or negotiate insurance in the state of New Jersey. Following completion of a prelicensing education course, applicants must take the state licensing test.
Individuals with CLU and ChFC designations can waive the Life and Health Insurance pre-licensing education and examination. Individuals with CPCU designations can waive the Health, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines, and Surplus Lines pre-licensing education and examinations.
